Hiddink works his magic again as Russians down Swedes in Euro 2008

INNSBRUCK, Austria AFP) Guus Hiddink s reputation as a miracle worker was given further credence here on Wednesday as a young Russian side overcame a vastly more experienced Swedish one 2-0 in their Euro 2008 Group D clash to progress to the last eight at the expense of the Swedes.

The 61-year-old Dutchman whose side will face his compatriots in the last eight on Saturday looked on with a broad smile on his face as goals by Roman Pavlyuchenko in the 24th minute, for his second of the tournament, and Russian player of the year Andrei Arshavin in the 50th minute sealed a deserved victory.

Russia progress to their first ever knockout stages of a major tournament since the break up of the Soviet Union in 1991, and their meeting with the Dutch will be a repeat to a certain…

Harry Kane conceded an opportunity missed for England after the Three Lions suffered Euro 2024 final heartbreak against Spain in Berlin.

The Three Lions became the first nation to lose back-to-back European Championship finals, as Mikel Oyarzabal snatched a 2-1 victory for La Roja with four minutes remaining on Sunday.

Substitute Cole Palmer had earlier cancelled out Nico Williams second-half opener, but it was not to be once again for Gareth Southgate s side, whose 58-year wait for silverware continues.

I was right to turn down Man City move in 2016, says Laporte

Aymeric Laporte said he was right to initially turn down Pep Guardiola and Manchester City in 2016 before joining the Premier League leaders in January.

French defender Laporte swapped Athletic Bilbao for City in a club-record £57million deal last month.

The 23-year-old, who remains uncapped by France, appeared set to link up with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium 18 months earlier but the deal fell through.

Speaking ahead of Sunday s EFL Cup final against Arsenal, Laporte said: I was injured and I didn t think it was the right moment for me to come here.

The injury complicated things a bit but I knew that if I kept working hard, the chance would come as City knew the potential I had.

I know what I have to do and what I had to work on.

Hazard: Lille winning Ligue 1 would top 2010-11

Eden Hazard believes Lille winning Ligue 1 this season would be a greater achievement than when he inspired the club to a domestic double a decade ago.

Belgium star Hazard enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2010-11 when Lille won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

He left for Chelsea after the following season, when he retained the Ligue 1 Player of the Year crown, but has kept a keen eye on Les Dogues ever since, having joined the club at 14 and progressed through the youth ranks.

I owe almost everything to Lille, he said in an interview with the club s official website.

If I am here today, it is partly thanks to the people I met in the north [of France], to the coaches, but also to all those whom I was able to meet during these years.

They all ha…

NFL Underdogs: Jason Logan’s Favorite Picks for Week 11

We’re stuck in holiday limbo.

Halloween is but a rotting pumpkin on the steps and your kids’ candy stash is down to plain chips and yellow suckers. You could put up the Christmas decorations early – despite the sideways looks you’ll get from your neighbors – but you’ve got to beat the Thanksgiving crowds to the turkey freezer to avoid frantically grabbing any old bird like you’re at the bottom of a dog pile trying to find a fumble.

NFL betting is also in limbo.

We’re well enough into the schedule to separate the contenders from the pretenders, yet not too far along that bum teams are bailing on the season. The standings show at least a two-team race in most divisions, so motivations are a mixed bag in the middle…

Vikings vs Eagles MNF Prop Bets: Jalen Puts Vikes in Hurts Locker

The Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles were two of the betting community’s favorite teams heading into the 2022 season and now they will meet under the prime-time lights of Monday Night Football at Lincoln Finacial Field.

When looking at the markets for Vikings vs. Eagles picks, I’m expecting another big day on the ground from Jalen Hurts, while Kirk Cousins will take what the defense gives him for another very efficient performance.

Here are my favorite NFL player props for the late Monday Night Football game to end Week 2.

49ers vs Rams Odds, Picks, and Predictions Week 2: Los Angeles Falls Back Down to Earth

Week 2 in the NFL features an NFC West matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams. Both teams are coming off big road wins in the opening week of the season with San Francisco hammering the Steelers by 23 points and L.A. beating Seattle 30-13.

However, the Rams were underdogs for that clash against the Seahawks and they are once against catching points as NFL betting lines opened with the Niners as 8-point road favorites for Sunday. Here are my best free NFL picks for September 17.

49ers vs Rams predictions

While both teams came away with road wins last Sunday, these sides entered the season with vastly different expectations. The San Francisco 49ers came into the year with t…

Best NFL Touchdown Props for Week 12: Running Away From The Pack

Not all TD markets are created equal and there is plenty of value to be had with shopping around and getting the best NFL odds possible. But that’s just one aspect of creating a profitable NFL props touchdown card week to week.

Looking over the NFL Week 12 odds, I’m getting one of the best holiday scorers in NFL history at +250, hitting a receiver whose production over the last two weeks has been off the charts, and then getting +650 for a backup in Jacksonville who is getting the short-yardage carries.

Here are my three best NFL picks for the anytime touchdown market.
